Hashi
Hashi, also known as Bridges, is a logic puzzle about islands. Each circle is an island with a number. Join islands with horizontal and vertical bridges so each island has exactly as many bridges as its number, with at most two bridges between any pair and no bridges crossing. In the end, every island must be connected.
How to play
Every Hashi here has exactly one solution and can be solved by logic alone. The grid grows from 7×7 at Easy to 13×13 at Expert, and the level is set by the hardest technique the puzzle needs.
- Bridges run straight, horizontally or vertically, between two islands.
- At most two bridges join the same pair of islands.
- Bridges never cross each other or an island.
- Each island has as many bridges as its number, and all islands end up connected.
Playing on this site
- Tap an island, then a neighbour it can see, to add a bridge; repeat to make it double, and once more to remove it.
- Tapping the water between two islands does the same.
- A finished island is shaded and its number fades; a number with too many bridges turns red.
- Hint points out bridges that are not in the solution first, then names the next technique and shows how many bridges go where.
- Your puzzle is saved in this browser, so you can come back to it later.
Techniques by level
Every technique the solver knows, from easiest to hardest. A puzzle's level is the hardest one it needs.
Easy
- Just enough room
- This island's links can carry exactly its number, so it uses them all; or it already has its number and takes no more. Bridges never cross.
- Count the neighbours
- Even with every other link full, this island still needs a bridge here; or it would get too many.
Medium
- Don't close off a pair
- Joining these two islands this way would finish both and cut them off from the rest.
Hard
- Keep it all connected
- This choice would seal a group of finished islands off from the others, or leave the islands in two parts.
Expert
- Contradiction
- Any other count here breaks a rule a few steps later.
Questions
What is the easiest Hashi move?
An island whose number equals twice its neighbours, such as a 4 with two neighbours in a corner, takes double bridges to all of them. A 1 next to another 1 must look elsewhere, or both would be cut off.
Will I ever have to guess?
No. Every puzzle has exactly one solution that logic alone reaches, at every level.
Is Hashi free to play here?
Yes. Every level is free, with no account and no sign-in.
