Hidato
Hidato is a number path puzzle. Fill every empty cell so the numbers from 1 to the last form one chain: each number touches the next one horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Some numbers, including the first and the last, are given.
How to play
Every Hidato here has exactly one solution and can be solved by logic alone. The grid grows from 5×5 at Easy to 7×7 at Hard, and the level is set by the hardest technique the puzzle needs.
- Each number from 1 to the last appears once.
- Consecutive numbers touch, side by side or diagonally.
- The given numbers cannot be changed.
Playing on this site
- Tap an empty cell to write the current number; the next missing number becomes current.
- Tap a number you wrote to take it back; it becomes the current number again.
- Use the arrows below the board to pick another missing number.
- The numbers just before and after the current one are highlighted, so you can see where it must touch.
- Hint points out wrong numbers first, then names the next technique and shows where a number goes.
- Your puzzle is saved in this browser, so you can come back to it later.
Techniques by level
Every technique the solver knows, from easiest to hardest. A puzzle's level is the hardest one it needs.
Easy
- Only one place
- Next to the numbers around it, only this cell is left for the number.
Medium
- Follow the chain
- A number must touch the cells where the number before and the number after can be; everywhere else is out.
Hard
- Room on both sides
- A number in the middle of the chain needs two different neighbours, one for the number before and one after.
Questions
Can consecutive numbers touch diagonally?
Yes. A number touches the next one in any of the eight directions, including diagonals.
Will I ever have to guess?
No. Every puzzle has exactly one solution that logic alone reaches, at every level.
Is Hidato free to play here?
Yes. Every level is free, with no account and no sign-in.
