Minesweeper
Minesweeper is a logic puzzle on a grid of covered cells, some of which hide mines. Open a safe cell and it shows how many mines touch it, counting all eight neighbours. Use those numbers to open every safe cell; flags help you remember where the mines are.
How to play
Every board here is no-guess: it starts with an opened area, and from there every cell can be decided by logic. Opening a mine counts as a mistake rather than ending the game, so you can carry on.
- A number counts the mines in the eight cells around it.
- Open every cell that has no mine to clear the board.
- Flags are only a helper; the board is solved once every safe cell is open.
- Opening a cell with no mines around it opens its neighbours too.
Playing on this site
- Choose Open or Flag below the board, then tap a covered cell.
- In Flag mode a tap places a flag, and tapping it again removes it.
- The counter shows how many mines are left once your flags are taken away.
- Hint points out wrong flags and opened mines first, then names the next technique and highlights where it applies.
- Your puzzle is saved in this browser, so you can come back to it later.
Techniques by level
Every technique the solver knows, from easiest to hardest. A puzzle's level is the hardest one it needs.
Easy
- Counting
- This number already sees all its mines, so its other covered cells are safe; or it has exactly as many covered cells as mines left, so they are all mines.
Medium
- Two numbers
- These two numbers share some covered cells. However the shared mines fall, the marked cells end up decided.
Hard
- Mine total
- The mines still to find are all needed next to the numbers, so the cells away from them are safe.
Expert
- Whole group
- Try every way to place mines in the highlighted cells that fits all the numbers around them: they agree on the marked cells.
Questions
What does no-guess Minesweeper mean?
Every board is checked by a solver that only uses logic. If a board would ever force a 50/50 guess, it is thrown away, so the board in front of you can always be finished by reasoning.
What happens if I open a mine?
It is marked and counted as a mistake, and you can keep playing. Hint can also point it out and cover it again.
Is Minesweeper free to play here?
Yes. Every size is free, with no account and no sign-in.
