Sliding Tiles
Sliding Tiles is the classic sliding puzzle. Numbered tiles fill a square frame except for one gap. Slide tiles into the gap until they read in order, row by row, with the gap in the bottom-right corner.
How to play
Every puzzle here can be solved, and the levels are board sizes: from 3×3 at Easy to 6×6 at Expert. Hint follows the method people use, one row and one column at a time.
- Only a tile next to the gap, or in line with it, can move.
- Tiles slide into the gap; they are never lifted out.
- The puzzle is solved when the tiles read 1, 2, 3 and so on, with the gap last.
Playing on this site
- Tap a tile in the gap's row or column; every tile between slides one step toward the gap.
- Tiles already in their home cell are tinted.
- Hint names the step and shows where the next tiles go.
- Your game is saved in this browser, so you can come back to it later.
Techniques by level
Every technique the solver knows, from easiest to hardest. A puzzle's level is the hardest one it needs.
Questions
How do I finish the last two tiles of a row?
Place them together: bring the last tile under its home cell, the one before it into the last home cell, then slide the pair in with a short rotation.
Can every puzzle be solved?
Yes. Half of all shuffles can never be solved; every puzzle here is checked to be in the solvable half.
Is Sliding Tiles free to play here?
Yes. Every level is free, with no account and no sign-in.
